Imbalance

In the Imbalance series, Prune Nourry draws her inspiration from Chinese philosophy, at the heart of which is the quest for equilibrium. Contrasting this principle with contemporary disequilibrium (demographic and ecological), she uses tools and objects of Chinese traditional medicine, such as acupuncture needles or suction cups. The way they are used however, which differs from their original function, invites viewers to reinterpret them.

Inspired by Chinese philosophy that prioritizes balance, the artist points to the demographic and ecological imbalance China faces today. Presented in conjunction with the main exhibition in New York City, Nourry immersed her Imbalance series in an intimate Chinatown back-and-foot massage center in September 2014. She mixed original artworks with traditional reflexology posters and the center's ubiquitous fish tanks.
