Holy Daughters - 2010

Holy Daughters is the first part of a triptych elaborated over several years in Asia: a reflection on gender imbalance and the misuse of new scientific technologies for gender selection purposes linked to the cultural preference for boys.

Since the 1980s recourse to prenatal ultrasound scans and abortion, to the detriment of girls throughout the world, and particularly in India and China – a third of the world's population – has accentuated this imbalance, with alarming consequences for the status of women: feminicide, the purchase of women for marriage, abduction of young girls, prostitution and forced polyandry.
