Catharsis - 2018

The exhibition Catharsis, presented in 2019 at Galerie Templon in Paris, brought together works relating to Prune Nourry's journey through illness to recovery. When she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2016, the mythological figure of the Amazon became an obvious point of reference. Legend has it that these female archers had one of their breasts amputated, the better to handle their bows in the face of the enemy. In the same way the artist chose to transform loss into strength and, as an artist, to reappropriate her body after it had been sculpted by the surgeon’s hands during the reconstruction phase. She who, like an anthropologist, had been taking an objective look at the world and its imbalances, became her own subject, caught up by the disturbances of a body transmuted into material to be modelled. This brought her to the realisation that the artist's vision is always subjective.
